The Genesis album is the Twelfth Genesis album and the sixth album after the departure of Peter Gabriel. After Gabriel’s departure the band abandoned its progressive roots and became a pop-rock outfit. While the first two efforts (Trick of the Tale and Wind And Wuthering) retained most of their early sound, the band began to release many more pop oriented ballads. The departure of Steve Hackett effectively eliminated the last vestiges of the earlier Gabriel era sound. While the Genesis album was critically praised as a Pop record, I felt it was a step back to the earlier Genesis sound. While there were some ballads, they didn’t seem to be the syrupy versions released earlier. Here are two tracks from the LP.
