This song should be on every teen’s media player. I watch my children as they go through life, so filled with worry and angst that it saddens me. I know their fear when contemplating asking someone to a dance. I watch them fret about unrequited affection that often results in words being left unsaid and feelings hidden. They fear the slightest breech of composure will result in humiliation, and rejection is their ultimate devastation. I know what’s going through their heads and I wish they could be made to understand that none of this matters. These “friends” will pass through their lives, probably never to be seen again. I wish I could tell them, and that they’ll know, that everybody plays the fool.
Oh, by the way, the lead vocalist for “The Main Ingredient” is Cuba Gooding Sr.
