Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then He is not omnipotent. Is He able, but not willing? Then He is malevolent. Is He both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is He neither able nor willing? Then why call Him God?
Epicurus (c. 341 – c. 270 BC)

Whenever I tell a friend I’m an atheist they tell me I’m not. I’m beginning to agree. While I don’t believe in a christian god, or an islamic god, or any deity contrived from organized religion, I do believe in nature and the force therein. That’s why I’m drawn to the Tao. It cannot be explained and I won’t attempt to explain it here. I’m not sure I know myself. However, it teaches to just allow things to be. Let love be, let sorrow be, let pain be, and things will run their natural course. Animals just be, plants just be, but mankind does not. We judge. We hate. We war. We are not happy. If we lived life as flowing water we would be living with the Tao. The paradox here is that on occasion we have to build things, we have to divert streams, we have to defend ourselves. That’s perfectly OK. But, I think the secret is to flow with the river, unless your overt actions can do some good.

Just be.
