measureless to man

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge wrote these words in Kubla Khan, a poem he began after waking from an opium induced dream. Sadly, he was interrupted and the poem remained unfinished. I can say I’ve had an epiphany at least once in my life. I remember waking one morning, the radio playing, and “This Must Be The Place” was playing. I was overcome with a complete sense of peace and understanding for a time. I felt I knew and understood the universe and I was awed. The song ended, the feeling passed, and I’ve never been able to recapture that experience again…maybe someday.
